I envision the day we all see people as people instead of people as their illness.

For those with brain anatomy knowledge...this is incredible

This article takes a perspective on the famous Sistine Chapel ceiling artwork by Michelangelo called "Creation of Adam" (you know, the one where the naked guy has his hand extended out and is almost touching index fingers with God?). I am absolutely dumbfounded by this article! If you have a decent understanding of the human brain (about the equivalent of year one university) then you would greatly appreciate what this article explains about the similarity of carefully placed figures wrapped in a silk blanket - and the fine detailed shape of the brain that includes accurate depiction of lobes, fissures, arteries, the brain stem, and glands, to name a few.
I cant give away anymore, read this article!

  1. This is fascinating. I have just briefly scanned over the article but plan to sit down with it and give it a good read later on. I was actually just listening to a podcast (because I love podcasts) yesterday about Michelangelo and it is no surprise that he would have included that type of iconography in his work. He actually would dissect corpse to gain a better understanding of the human anatomy (as did several of the great high renaissance masters of the time), so he would have a good understanding of construction of the human brain. Also being a true renaissance man, he would have been interested in the science of the brain, as well as the philosophy of the soul and religion... I could learn about this stuff forever. Not only have you already covered my passion for handmade local eating, but also symbolism in renaissance art. This is truly a blog after my own heart. xo
